Why You Should Use a Random Number Generator

If you're trying to construct an array of random numbers yourself, you probably will find some sort of pattern. Even in the subconscious, the human mind is conditioned to look for and make things into an order or pattern. However, this can negatively affect math problems you're working on or activities you have planned.

To ensure that it's entirely up to chance, and to ensure that you don't have any influence on this decision, we've created this handy random number generator which will choose a number on your behalf. It's easy to use. Simply input two numbers and the random number generator will give you an integer between them.

How To Use a Random Number Generator

This random number generator is able to recognize complete numbers and negative numbers. It doesn't recognize decimals, fractions or equations. If you type in an % symbol, the symbol will not translate onto the random number area.

  1. Start by entering the number of your choice in the lower limit box.
  2. Enter a second number that you would like to enter into the box for the upper limit.
  3. When you have two numbers, enter them.
  4. The random number will be displayed inside your Random Number box.
  5. Continue pressing Enter for a new number each time.
  6. When you wish to change the lower limit and upper limit numbers, choose Clear.

Working Example

Let's imagine that you need to select a random number for a raffle prize. There are thirty people who attend the raffle, and only three people will win. Tickets range from 1 to 150, which means the Lower Limit is 1 , and the upper Limit will be 150. When you enter, then the random number generator gives you the numbers 7, 36, and 2.

Participants in raffles who have the numbers 7 2, 36, and 7 in their ticket will be the three raffle winners.

Decimal Trouble

Imagine you're trying to locate a number within 2.01 as well as 2.5. You type in 2.01 as the Lower Limit and 2.5 as your upper limit. When you press Enter and you're given a 2. This isn't in line with your values! Sorry, but there's no decimals to be used within this random number generator. However, if you're working within decimals of the same number you can utilize other whole numbers as the two values and then assign the result following the decimal.

For example, if the range you're looking for is within 2.01 and 2.5 then you can type 1 and 50 in the value boxes. Let's say it generates the number 25. You could put that to your decimal and this would be your result: 2.25
